History of Mission Expansion
An Acts 2 Church in Every College Town
The Berkland network became a collection of autonomous churches; the Berkeley church was renamed Gracepoint Fellowship Church. Out of a season of rebuilding came our first mission statement: “An Acts 2 church in every college town.”
The Beginning of Church Planting
Our first overseas church planted in Taiwan. The next year, a team sent to Austin saw college students respond to the gospel — sparking a wider movement of church planting.
New Opportunities to Serve
A group of young women spent Valentine’s Day bringing crafts, songs, and God’s love to residents in elderly care homes. What began as a simple act of love became a lasting ministry: Elderly Care Ministry.
Investing in the Next Generation
We noticed a need among immigrant churches for leaders to serve their youth. In response, we began Interhigh Ministry in 2009. Since then, youth ministry teams have served in approximately 100 churches throughout our network, investing in the next generation through discipleship and leadership.
Multiplying Across the Country
Encouraged by what God had done in Austin, we sent three teams to plant churches in Minneapolis, San Diego, and Riverside. The vision was becoming a reality: God was raising up people willing to go wherever they were needed.
Expanding Along the West Coast
We continued planting churches and launching college ministries along the West Coast. New ministries began at campuses in Southern California and Seattle.
The Great Scattering
Internally called “The Great Scattering” — about 150 people moved to the East Coast to begin new ministries at six locations.
Reaching Beyond the Church
In 2018, we looked beyond our church and saw the need to reach local youth through leadership training and mentorship, leading to the launch of Area Youth Ministry. We continued church planting and teams of people moved to start ministries at colleges in Chicagoland.
The Even Greater Scattering
In the midst of a global pandemic, 364 people moved to start new ministries on campuses and in cities across the country, mostly the Midwest — “The Even Greater Scattering.”
Launching Lifelong Kingdom Workers
As our churches and ministries continued to multiply, we recognized that we had become more than a local church—we had become a network of ministries across the nation. We changed our name to Acts2 Network and embraced a new mission: “Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town.” Our vision remained rooted in Acts 2: to build communities that live out the gospel and send workers into the world.
Going to the Nations
84 people committed to a year of overseas missions. From 2024 to 2026, we trained and sent 229 missionaries on one-year terms across seven countries.
Establishing a Home for Training
Headquarters moved to Elgin, Illinois, and the Acts2 Training Center opened — alongside new ministries across the Midwest, Georgia, and, for the first time, Canada.
